"Fit and finish of the boat appear great. The T270's performance exceeds my expectations. Top speeds (flat water and calm winds) are 33-34 km/h when I'm alone (175 lbs) and 26-27 km/h when my wife comes along (+105 lbs). Handling is secure, cornering is typical for a RIB, and ride is dry. The Yamaha 9.9 matches the boat nicely (thanks for the recom. John!) and runs quiet and smooth.
Now for a quick story... We sailed over to Clayton NY on Sunday afternoon, lots of thunder grumbling in the distance but radar showed it'd pass well to the north. By the time we were 10 minutes out from Clayton it was obvious the squall's trajectory had changed and we were going to see some weather. Landed Pearl on 50' open dock on the windward side of the town wharf in 20-25 knots, then the storm hit... Wind clocked SW to N in 5 seconds and we were getting pushed onto the dock in 40 knot gusts with 4' swells for about 20 minutes (see video taken from the powerboat behind us). lots of carnage on boats afterwards (we were pretty lucky with just a popped fender, broken stanchion base and furling block, and lost our flag and pole). Anyway, during the early stages of the storm there were lots of changing priorities to attend to, one was getting the T270 off the windward side of the dock. It was hairy jumping from Pearl into the RIB in the confused seas, but the boat ran hard, strong, safe, and dry (I think, I was soaked already!) for the short and fast trip around the dock. I would NEVER have felt as confident in our old Highfield UL260 with a 6hp Suzuki It would have been white knuckling to keep control in the wind and waves!
